Obama Requests $643.6 Million For US Territories and FAS
/President Obama has requested a $643.6M budget for fiscal year 2016 for the Department of Interior's Office of Insular Affairs.
"The Office of Insular Affairs (OIA) carries out the Secretary’s responsibilities for U.S.-affiliated insular areas. These include the territories of Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI), and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), as well as three Freely Associated States (FAS): the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) and the Republic of Palau (Palau)."
Noteworthy budget requests:
$7M: to address climate change adaptation and resilience.
$4.4M: sustainable energy.
$5M: schools.
$71M: tax payments for Guam’s active-duty military and federal retirees.
$31M: Compact Impact aid for Am. Samoa, Guam, Hawaii and the CNMI.
$228.6M: COFA funding (ROP, FSM and RMI).
