Health Equity Bill Introduced to US Congress

Washington (July 30, 2014) - Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D) of California introduced the Health Equity and Accountability Act of 2014 (HEAA). If approved, it will reinstate Medicaid eligibility for COFA migrants living in the USA.

COFA migrants have not had access to Medicaid since the Health Insurance Reform Act of 1996.

Although free to live and work in the United States and subsequently paying taxes that go into the Medicaid program, migrants from the COFA nations have been struggling to find access to healthcare.

This bill, if made into law, would be a welcome change.
