Hawaii Not Required to Fund COFA Medical Benefits

"Here we go again".

The US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit removed an injunction on April 1st that prevents the state of Hawaii from initiating BHH, a reduced health care plan made specifically for COFA citizens.

In short, Hawaii no longer has to pay for state funded medical insurance for COFA citizens.

The state of Hawaii has not announced if they plan on reenacting BHH. Currently, the state is reviewing the situation to determine the best approach.

The ruling has prompted hundreds of COFA citizens and their supporters to rally and demonstrate their concerns. On April 16th, demonstrators mobilized along Ala Moana boulevard with such signs that read, "UNCLE SAM PLS KEEP UR PROMISE".
