Cruise Liners to Micronesia?
/The South Pacifc Tourism Organisation is showing an interest in Micronesia as a destination for cruises. The plan reflects a growing interest in more remote locations.
The SPTO has announced that certain measures are needed before the plan can move forward. The islands need to organize their ports and examine safety concerns. CEO, Ilisoni Vuidreketi suggests a committee to establish a “National Cruise Plan” for the tourists who will likely want to experience the islands on foot.
This could have the potential for a very profitable enterprise. However, a sudden flux of touring populations requires ample resources and the cooperation of the residents.
The plan would align with SPTO's vision of tourism: "Tourism will Inspire Sustainable Economic Growth and Empower the Pacific People".
