Diabetes in Micronesia

The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) produced a list in 2012 of the top countries with the largest percentage of diabetics. Standing at the top of the list, with 37.2% prevalence is the FSM, followed by Nauru at 30.1%, the RMI at 27.1%, and Kiribati at 25.5%.

A closer look shows that the FSM has around 35,000 people with diabetes. One out of three FSM citizens is likely diabetic.

Bishop Museum Unveiling Renovated Pacific Hall

The Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum will hold their Grand Unveiling of the Pacific Hall on Saturday September 21, 2013.

The museum has a whole day of events planned starting from 9 AM to 9PM that shares food, fashion, films, lectures, art, music, dance, poetry and prose from across the Pacific. Notable events inclue the Jaki-ed (Marshallese dress mats) exhibit and a showing of the Marshallese language film, "The Land of Eb". For those who are wondering how much this will all cost,  the cost of admission is free.

"Your Move"

The "Your Move" initiative is a youth project that looks to collect positive contents "by Micronesians and for Micronesians".

Excerpt:

"We will be collecting and documenting POSITIVE content by Micronesians  and for Micronesians. Not dense articles, not pieces on difficulties and  challenges, but music, art, food, recipes, movies, sports, fashion,  fishing, travel, photos, dance, businesses, etc. that features,  includes, or is about Micronesia."

Examples:

1. Recordings from sporting events (pictures, videos etc.).

2. Recordings of community events (church gatherings, birthday parties etc.).

3. Recipes & photos of favorite foods.

4. Artworks (music, dance, artpieces etc.).

5. Micronesian business owners (Good opportunity to advertise your business).
